Find out what will happen during an EFT session with a certified Practitioner
During your EFT (Tapping) session, several key steps and processes will take place to address and release emotional issues, for example:
Introduction and Setting Intentions
There will usually be an introduction to the technique and setting intentions for the session. If working with a practitioner, they may ask you about the emotional issue you want to address or any specific goals you have for the session.
Identifying the Target Issue
The next step is to identify the specific emotional issue you want to work on during the session. This could be a current stressor, a past trauma, a limiting belief, a physical ailment with emotional roots, or any other emotional challenge you wish to address.
Rating the Intensity
Before starting the tapping process, you'll rate the intensity of the emotional issue on a scale from 0 to 10, with 10 being the most intense. This helps you gauge the progress made throughout the session.
The Tapping Sequence while Tuning Into the Emotions
With the target issue in mind, you or the practitioner will lead the tapping process. The practitioner might guide you through the tapping points, or if you're doing it alone, you'll follow the standard tapping sequence. You'll tap on the acupressure points while repeating setup statements and affirmation phrases that address the issue.
As you tap, you'll tune into the emotions associated with the issue. This involves acknowledging and accepting the emotions without judgment. You may describe the feelings or allow yourself to feel them fully during the process.
Reassessing the Intensity
After completing a round of tapping, you'll pause and reassess the intensity of the emotional issue. You'll rate it again on the intensity scale to see if there has been a decrease.
Addressing Aspects and Persistence to find Resolution and Relief
If the emotional issue has multiple aspects or layers, you may address each of them through subsequent rounds of tapping. This ensures that all relevant aspects are acknowledged and released during the session.
The goal of the session is to tap until you experience a significant reduction in the emotional intensity associated with the issue. Ideally, you should feel a sense of resolution, relief, or at least a shift in perspective.
Closure and Gratitude
Towards the end of the session, there will be a sense of closure. If working with a practitioner, they may guide you through a grounding exercise or relaxation technique to conclude the session. Expressing gratitude for the progress made during the session is common practice.
Homework and Self-Care
After the session, you might receive some homework or self-care practices to continue working on the issue independently. This can include additional tapping, journaling, or other tools to support your emotional well-being.
