Where do I tap?

Find out where to tap during EFT?

Let me show you a simple tapping sequence so you can get a feel for how it works.

First, you will identify the issue you want to work on, like stress, anxiety, or a specific memory that's bothering you. It's worth a few moments on this, maybe with your eyes closed, so you can tune into your body. When you think of this, do you feel it somewhere in your body? For example you may feel anxiety as a fluttering in your chest, fear of speaking may show up as a lump in your throat or dread as a heavy stone in your belly. This a personal experience so it doesn't matter where it is or what it is, just acknowledge it. Then, you rate the intensity of that feeling/emotion on a scale from 0 to 10, with 10 being the most intense.

Next, you start tapping with our fingertips on these specific points: side of the hand (sometimes referred to as the karate chop point) for a set up statement such as "event though I have this issue, I want to love and accept myself anyway" or something similar, the eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, on the chin, collarbone, under the arm, and the top of the head.

As you tap on each point, you acknowledge the issue and affirm your self-acceptance despite the problem. After tapping, relook at the number and you will find there is a reduction in the intensity of the negative emotions and you will feel a greater sense of calm and relief. Tapping through all the points in this way is referred to as a round and this can be repeated as many times as you like in order to reduce the intensity of the emotion.

This is a very basic run through. Please keep in mind that for complex or deep-seated emotional issues, it's advisable to seek guidance from a trained EFT practitioner or a mental health professional. I do not recommend trying to treat strong emotions or upsetting memories yourself - a practitioner will help guide you through in a safe way ensuring you don't re-live trauma. Please see my blog post on 'When should I use a certified EFT Practitioner'
